    MISSION STATEMENT

To gather in the spirit of friendship and cooperation, to learn more about herbs and to use this knowledge to educate and benefit others.

In an effort to accomplish our mission, we are hoping to receive your input and ideas on the following Society activities.

    ORDER OF BUSINESS MEETING ITEMS

Beginning in 2025, we moved the Program Speaker and Herb of the Month to the beginning of the timeframe and the “business” discussions, to the end.  At the beginning of the meeting we announce if there will be any votes during the business portion, allowing for attendance at the business portion to be optional (especially for visitors).

    COMMUNICATION METHODS

    MONTHLY HERB TASTING & EDUCATION

Members vote on herbs to be featured from a proposed list.  January’s featured herb is the International Herb Association Herb of the Year.  Please note: Hosting at least one featured herb tasting/education per year is currently a membership requirement

    MONTHLY MEETING PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

The monthly meeting typically includes a 45-minute Program.

    SHS WEBSITE

SHS has a Public and Member Website. The Public site provides SHS Meeting/Program/Featured Herb & Tasting Signups.  The Member Website is password protected (h3rbi3) and provides Member contact information.
To access our Website(s), go to:  www.seasideherbsociety.com

    FUNDRAISING/PUBLIC EDUCATIONAL EVENTS

In the past, SHS held 2 events each year to finance Society activities and support our Mission.
    1. a plant sale in November and
    2. an Herb Faire in late March/April  (consisting of a bake sale, a plant sale and outside vendors)
Last Spring we did not hold a Faire and have planned a combined bake and plant sale on November 8, 2025.

    EVENT “JOBS”

The following EVENT JOBS would enable us to highlight all Society activities.

    HERB GARDEN

In support of our Mission to educate others about herbs, SHS maintains the herb garden just north of the Bailey Riverbridge.  Member volunteers are needed to maintain and weed the garden throughout the year.

    NEWSLETTER

The Society publishes a monthly Newsletter that provides information and activities shared at our meetings from September through May.

    COMMUNITY INITIATIVES

The Society typically supports several community initiatives throughout the year.
Please check the Community Initiatives you are in favor of, are willing to volunteer for and/or provide suggestions or comments.

    SPEAKERS ENGAGEMENT

The SHS website provides a platform for individuals and organizations to hire SHS members as speakers for $75.

    HOLIDAY PARTY

SHS holiday party has recently been held during the regular meeting schedule in December.  The Society funds a portion of the party and members bring a themed dish.  In the past, we have also scheduled a luncheon at a local restaurant.  In both cases, there was an optional gift exchange.

Suggestions to Grow Membership/Educate the Community About Herbs

We are looking for current and former members to provide feedback and suggestions on changes or activities that would increase your likelihood of remaining or becoming a member.  (already instituted or proposed changes, future fund-raising or program events)
Providing your name would be helpful particularly if you have expressed an interest in volunteering for a Society activity.
